GTT signs joint development project to design LNG-fuelled VLCC

2019-09-19

GTT has signed a joint development project (JDP) with Lloyd's Register (LR), China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. (CMES), CNOOC Gas and Power Group, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC) to design an LNG-fuelled Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC).

The project will evaluate design options for an LNG-fuelled VLCC that uses GTT Mark III membrane LNG tank. It includes reviewing solutions to minimise construction costs for LNG-fuelled ships, whilst ensuring operational flexibility and efficiency. Tank sizes will be considered for round trip voyages to maximise bunkering options, together with optimum location for the tanks.

The implementation of GTT’s Mark III tank for a dual-fuel VLCC will combine endurance with full cargo capacity, thanks to the well optimised fuel tank design. GTT is excited to collaborate with the other partners in this JDP and contributing to more efficient and environmentally friendly ships.
